Some Grocery Finds, A New Recipe, & a Bed Time Ritual

I knew I was in trouble today when I headed out to the grocery store at 11am. I had to hit both the grocery store and Sprouts Farmers Market and I knew it would be a miracle if I were done with both by noon, but I was out of a few necessities so off I went with three children in tow.

By now the kids and I have a good grocery routine. Sophia pushes Chase in his stroller and I push Jack in the shopping cart. The kids are usually pretty well behaved however, it was almost lunch time which meant lots of whining.

Anyhow, my point of this entry is to brag about a few good deals. As you know my family and I are on the journey of healthier eating for 2014. At this point it’s a mix of organic goods along with whatever food is still in my fridge and pantry. I don’t want to be wasteful so we haven’t gone full organic yet. A sweet lady randomly gave me two of her HEB coupons. One of the coupons was $3 off your entire purchase of $30 or more (I knew I’d use that one!). The second coupon, was for a FREE 5 lb bag of potatoes. The coupon didn’t specify which kind so I asked a man in the produce section if I could use it for the organic potatoes and he said yes! Score! I got a free bag of organic potatoes (originally $4.98)! God bless that sweet lady! I also scored a few organic items on “Quick Sale” for $.99. I was so pleased with my grocery finds today! My heart still does a flip with how much some of the food costs. Eggs are ridiculously expensive and the chicken…well let’s just say I wanted to faint. Baby steps Lora. Baby steps. I usually plan a menu and look for coupons which helps my grocery bill but today I dashed out like a mad woman so I hope to improve on the grocery bill.

Chase has had lots of congestion. At first I thought it was allergies since our entire family battles allergies, but his doctor recommend I switch his formula to soy because he could be allergic to cow’s milk. So off to Sprouts we went. I found an Organic Soy Formula that I hope does the trick. I’m going to try this for a month and see if he improves. Reports of his progress in a few weeks.

The other night I made a yummy Beet & Carrot Salad. The veggies were pan roasted and sat on a beautiful bed of spinach. It was then drizzled with a honey dressing that completed the beautiful side dish. I highly recommend this one. Visit here for the recipe.

I love to drink a cup of chamomile tea before bed. It is completely relaxing. But an even better bed time ritual is after a long day while you are in bed, search your heart and be silent (Psalm 4:4). Allow the Lord to speak to you and thank him for the day you’ve had!
