One of my goals this year is to live healthier by eating better and exercising more. I have to be honest the holidays put me in a real rut. I’ve grown lazy and unmotivated and the constant gloomy weather isn’t helping a bit.
In pursuit of some realistic solutions I came across the documentary Fat, Sick & Nearly Dead. The movie was incredibly inspiring and gave me the jolt of motivation I needed. To watch the movie and learn more about it visit here.
So I decided to go on a seven day juice fast starting tomorrow to detox my body and hopefully curb the deep desire for all the unhealthy garbage. This is going to be incredibly hard for me. I LOVE food. I love soda and sweet tea. I don’t have a sweet tooth but sugary drinks and caffeine have become an addiction.
Lately I’ve been dragging. I’m sure some of this is due to a teething seven month old, a needy two year old, and a spunky four year old but does every day have to be like this? I don’t think so. I think I’ve been neglecting my health by running towards convenience foods, not drinking water, and creating some very unhealthy eating habits. I will tell you why I’m a little more motivated. My kids and my husband need me. They need a healthy mom to help run our home. You put out what you put in. I believe that. So not only is this challenge about me and for me it’s for my family.
I won’t go into too much detail today but the bible is clear about some of the struggles I’m facing with my lack of discipline and self-control in the area of healthy living. So here’s a few reminders for us.
1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.
1 Corinthians 9:27
But I discipline my body and keep it under control, lest after preaching to others I myself should be disqualified.
Proverbs 25:28
A man without self-control is like a city broken into and left without walls.
So I’m writing this post for two reasons: accountability and to document my progress. I hope that you’ll go on this journey with me. I need a few cheerleaders and I’d love to have some of you join me! If you’d like to join me I have to advise you I am not a certified nutritionist or experienced in this field. Please advise your doctor before starting something like this. If you are ready and good to go here are a few things I’m doing that may be helpful to you.
- Buy a juicer. There’s a lot out there. Visit here for a guide.
- Journal your progress: start/end weigh in, recipes of what you are drinking, what drinks did you like/not like, how is each day making you feel, etc.
- Buy a scale (optional)
- Look for recipes. If you have a smart phone there are a ton of juicing apps or you can google or Pinterest for some ideas.
Alright. Let the journey begin!
